Partnerships lie at the core of how SEEN works across the UK to understand and tackle structural inequalities which limit the opportunities of African, Asian and Caribbean heritage children and young people. By offering transparency in our partnership principles, we hope to be held to account for the kinds of relationships we want to foster with the different types of partners we have.

Our partnership principles underpin how we develop our working relationships with a range of organisations and partners – from grass-roots organisations and communities, as well as the third-sector, to statutory partners, and the private sector. We will hold ourselves accountable to these principles and standards, and expect to be held accountable by others to ensure we keep strong to our mission to provide children and young people of African, Asian and Caribbean heritage with equitable futures to fulfil their full potentials.

All of our work is guided by the above principles, and we welcome opportunities to discuss how we can improve on the work we do to improve outcomes for children of African, Asian and Caribbean heritage.

Our Partnership Principles

Shared Values

Whilst we recognise and respect the differences we all have across sectors, and welcome the dialogue this brings, common understanding around the inequity African, Asian and Caribbean heritage children and young people face must be agreed for our partnerships with other organisations to be viable

Mutual Accountability

SEEN is accountable to a variety of stakeholders, most importantly, to children and young people of African, Asian and Caribbean heritage. As we develop partnerships, we discuss the various accountabilities with our partners, including how we maintain transparency around this.

A Commitment to Learning

SEEN is a Barnardo’s initiative – which a learning organisation. Our partnerships require joint agreement on how together we will learn from our collaborative work and from each other respectively, with the aim of knowledge-sharing lessons learned across the sector. Our partnerships will listen, plan, implement, learn and share together.

Purpose Driven

Our goal is clear – to create better outcomes for more African, Asian and Caribbean heritage children and young people. Across our partnerships, we emphasise this common goal to which we are working towards – whether our partnerships are short-term or long-term, to ensure that our combined efforts are contributing towards bringing about this change.

Innovative & Embraces Change

We are working with statutory and non statutory partners, as well as local and central government, to understand and challenge policies which limit the opportunities of African, Asian and Caribbean heritage children and young people. We provide expert consultancy, critical oversight, and strategic and operational monitoring and review.
